Replication for Disaster Recovery: How to Hit Tight RTOs and RPOs
Veeam, Friday, October 30th, 2026
Veeam explains how replication, snapshot-based replication, CDP and DRaaS help meet tight RTOs and RPOs, and how they differ from backup.
Replication keeps a ready-to-start copy of a workload on a second platform so recovery means powering something on rather than rebuilding it, while backup provides retention and clean recovery points, so the two complement each other.
Snapshot-based replication creates point-in-time replicas on intervals from nightly to every few minutes, while continuous data protection uses a journal for recovery points in seconds.
Replication is storage agnostic but not hypervisor agnostic, and CDP costs more than snapshot replication, which costs more than backup, so the aim is an affordable mix.
The post stresses testing failover so an RTO is proven rather than asserted.
