Running Self-Hosted AI Agents

Oxide Computer, Thursday, October 29th, 2026

Oxide explains running self-hosted AI agents on its Cloud Computer by running the orchestrator in a VM that creates ephemeral VMs per agent session.

Oxide says AI agents sit between long-lived services and ephemeral CI/CD jobs, so the best approach is an orchestrator VM that spins up an ephemeral VM for each agent session.

It explains that agents are loops of GPU-based inference and CPU-based tool execution, with the harness (such as Claude Code, Codex or Amp) running on a CPU and calling an LLM over the network.

The post demonstrates this on the Oxide Cloud Computer using Claude Code self-hosted environments and Amp self-hosted orbs.
