Most Enterprises Already Run More Than One Virtual Desktop Platform. Is Your Operating Model Built for That?

Nerdio, Thursday, October 29th, 2026

Nerdio cites research that 71% of enterprises run two or more virtual desktop platforms and says operating models should plan for that.

According to the research cited in this vendor post, 29% of respondents run a single desktop virtualization or cloud desktop platform, 37% run two and 34% run three or more.

Nerdio argues multi-platform is the current state rather than a temporary one, so teams need not resolve a single big migration decision first.

Organizations with significant Citrix or Omnissa deployments are adding Windows 365 or Azure Virtual Desktop for specific workloads while keeping the existing platform for the rest.

It points to Microsoft's AVD Hybrid as another sign hybrid models will persist, and says the planning question becomes running all platforms well.
