Anthropic engineer declares the coding interview dead

The Register, Wednesday, October 28th, 2026

Anthropic engineering manager Felix Rieseberg says he no longer uses coding interviews because Claude outperforms candidates on such tests.

In a blog post, Anthropic engineering manager Felix Rieseberg said he has stopped using traditional coding interviews for his team.

He said small coding challenges in real code once gave a weak but useful signal, but there is no more point in a React challenge than in quizzing on assembly, since Claude is now better at both.

He added that his most impactful builders succeed regardless of how they do on such tests.

Google principal engineer Jaana Dogan agreed on social media, saying she would be interested in interviewing how people use coding agents.
