Smarter Cost Controls for Serverless
Databricks, Thursday, October 29th, 2026
Databricks adds serverless cost controls including rate limits now, with shared budgets coming, alongside tagging, access controls and budget alerts.
Because serverless removes infrastructure settings like node counts and cluster policies, cost control moves to people and workloads, and Databricks says platform teams worry about runaway spend, unrestricted access and missing accountability.
Controls for attributing costs (usage-policy tags, billing system tables), restricting who can run serverless, and alerts already exist for notebooks, jobs and pipelines.
Rate limits are now available to cap how fast a workload spends, and shared budgets are coming soon.
Databricks says its serverless usage has grown more than 3x in the past year.
