Gartner Warns $3.5T in AI Infrastructure Spending Could Be at Risk by 2030

Network World, Thursday, October 29th, 2026

Gartner warns over $3.5 trillion in AI infrastructure spending could face impairment by 2030 and predicts neocloud consolidation.

Gartner estimates more than $3.5 trillion in AI infrastructure spending could be exposed to asset impairments by the end of 2030 if providers keep investing at the current pace.

Data center owners would need about $8.5 trillion in revenue through 2030, but Gartner projects about $3.6 trillion from AI applications.

It predicts more than 80% of neocloud providers will stop operating independently by 2030, while hyperscalers dominate AI-optimized IaaS.

The article notes recent losses and share declines at CoreWeave, Nebius and IREN.
