In an IT Security Guru piece, Oliver Spence, CEO of CybaVerse, notes Hiscox figures that 38 percent of UK organisations suffered a cyber attack in the past year despite rising security spending and a UK cyber services market worth about 8.4 billion pounds.
He argues that managed detection and response focuses on containment, restoring systems to their prior state while leaving the original weakness, such as an unpatched vulnerability or misconfiguration, in place.
He calls for providers offering detection, response and remediation, and suggests a three-year test: after three years with a SOC provider, known gaps should be measurably closing.
