AWS's Hydro Team Wants the Compiler to Catch Coding Agents' Mistakes
The New Stack, Thursday, October 29th, 2026
AWS Hydro research lead Shadaj Laddad argues compilers, not code review, should catch coding agents' distributed-systems mistakes.
In this New Stack post, sponsored by AWS Marketplace, Matt Burns interviews Shadaj Laddad, research lead for AWS's Hydro team, at AGNTCon + MCPCon in San Jose.
Hydro is an open-source Rust framework for distributed systems that agents now largely write, producing large PRs that are hard to review, and agents often write their own tests too.
Laddad argues for correctness checks outside the agent's zone of trust, such as compile-time checks like Rust's borrow checker, and the team is exploring shared domain-specific guardrails such as idempotency.
The team also built Infinity, an open-source agent runtime, and both are early releases from AWS and UC Berkeley.
