A Few Engineers Asked IT for Linux. Then It Spread to 200 Machines.

The New Stack, Friday, October 23rd, 2026

Developers want Linux desktops for AI work; Swif.ai's CEO says IT will allow it once it can manage, secure and prove compliance.

Linux is already part of the AI developer's toolkit, but getting enterprise IT to approve it on work desktops is another matter.

Angelo Huang, CEO of device management firm Swif.ai, tells The New Stack the problem is not that Linux cannot be secure but that IT must be able to manage it, enforce controls and prove compliance.

Swif is adding Omarchy and Linux Mint support to a list that includes Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, RHEL, Arch and NixOS, and says SOC 2, ISO 27001 and HIPAA compliance standards can be set up in under 10 minutes.

Requests for new distributions are weighed by seat count and divergence.
