WEF's Akshay Joshi on why CEOs now rank cyber-enabled fraud above ransomware and how the resilience gap is widening.
In this interview, Akshay Joshi, head of the World Economic Forum's Centre for Cybersecurity, discusses findings from the Global Cybersecurity Outlook 2026, which says AI is accelerating threats, geopolitical fragmentation is increasing systemic exposure and cyber-fraud has become industrialized.
In the survey, 73% of respondents said they or someone in their network had been affected by cyber-enabled fraud in 2025, and CEOs now rank fraud and phishing above ransomware as their top concern.
Joshi describes a widening resilience gap between large and small organizations and between regions, driven partly by skills shortages.
He also offers advice for boards on governance and public-private cooperation.
