Deep Underground, Intel-Powered Robots Help Make Underground Mining Safer
Intel, Monday, October 12th, 2026
Australian robotics firm ADR uses Intel Xeon, Core Ultra and OpenVINO in autonomous rovers that inspect underground mines.
Underground mines are hazardous, and mandatory inspections can halt machinery for over 110 hours a month at a cost of more than $50,000 a week.
ADR's Explora rovers use Intel Xeon, Core Ultra and OpenVINO to analyze LiDAR and other sensor data while operators stay at a safe distance, and a docking station cleans and wirelessly recharges them.
ADR says efficient point-cloud compression freed over 50% of onboard CPU for AI models, and a Core Ultra Series 3 version will roll out over 12 months.
