Snapshots enable low-risk guest OS patching, preserve evidence from compromised systems and, with vSAN data protection, act as a last line of defense against ransomware.
The post also warns that snapshots are not backups, that legacy VMFS and SEsparse snapshots hurt performance when they accumulate, and that snapshot data needs the same protection as the original.
