Multi-Institutional Consortium Expands QRMI to Standardize Quantum-HPC Integration Across Major Workload Managers
Quantum Computing Report, Saturday, October 10th, 2026
Open-source QRMI now lets Slurm, PBS, LSF, Kubernetes and Flux schedule QPUs as resources alongside CPUs and GPUs.
IBM, Pasqal, Alice & Bob, CINECA, LLNL, ORNL and STFC Hartree detailed an expansion of the open-source Quantum Resource Management Interface (QRMI), a vendor-agnostic middleware layer that exposes QPUs as schedulable resources.
QRMI now supports Slurm, PBS Professional, IBM Spectrum LSF, Open Cluster Scheduler, Kubernetes and Flux, using a standard acquire-execute-release job lifecycle that prevents orphaned sessions.
It is already deployed at sites such as CINECA, which integrates Pasqal hardware, giving HPC centers a practical path to hybrid quantum-classical workloads.
