SOC Alert Fatigue: Why Agentic SOCs Are Replacing Playbooks
Network Intelligence News, Wednesday, October 7th, 2026
Network Intelligence explains how agentic SOCs that reason about each alert in context are taking over from fixed SOAR playbooks.
Alert fatigue is the erosion of analyst attention by a constant stream of low-value alerts, driven by tool sprawl, duplicates, untrusted rules, recurring false positives and manual enrichment, at the cost of delayed detection, burnout, inconsistent decisions and headcount that scales with alert volume.
Rule tuning, SOAR playbooks, hiring and outsourcing all help but plateau, whereas agentic SOCs use AI agents to group related alerts, keep confirmed false positives suppressed and auto-resolve high-confidence alerts.
Humans still handle escalations, high-impact approvals, edge cases and tuning, and success should be judged by MTTD, MTTR and auto-disposition accuracy.
