MongoDB engineering explains the disaggregated storage architecture behind Atlas Infinite.
This engineering post describes the architecture of Atlas Infinite, announced in public preview on September 29, which separates compute and storage onto different machines.
Compute nodes become stateless, while storage is a shared layer made up of a consensus-based Log Service, a Page Service keeping pages warm in each zone, and an Object Index Service over object storage.
Drivers, wire protocol and semantics are unchanged, read replicas start without copying disks, snapshots, clones and restores become constant-time zero-copy forks of the log, and pages are encrypted on the compute node.
