MongoDB Queryable Encryption: Prefix, Suffix, and Substring Queries Are Now GA

MongoDB, Tuesday, October 6th, 2026

MongoDB makes prefix, suffix and substring queries on encrypted data generally available in Queryable Encryption.

MongoDB announced general availability of prefix, suffix and substring queries in Queryable Encryption, which previously supported only equality and range queries.

Developed by MongoDB's Cryptography Research Group, the technology queries data while it stays encrypted, so the database never sees plaintext and teams can run partial-match searches on PII and PHI without unencrypted fields or external search indexes.

The capability supports HIPAA, PCI-DSS and GDPR requirements and is free in MongoDB Atlas, Enterprise Advanced and Community Edition.
