Confidential Computing - Growing Momentum, Sharpened Focus

Intel, Friday, October 9th, 2026

Intel says Diamond Rapids will be the last Xeon with SGX as it focuses confidential computing on TDX amid growing adoption.

Intel describes growing confidential computing adoption across cloud, enterprise and AI, citing Apple's Private Cloud Compute and OPPO's Private Computing Cloud, both using Intel TDX on Xeon.

Emerging drivers include agentic AI and data sovereignty requirements in regions like the EU, and Intel is working with NVIDIA to coordinate confidential computing across CPUs and GPUs.

Diamond Rapids will be the last processor with Intel SGX as development shifts to the more scalable TDX, which Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud and IBM Cloud already offer and Red Hat, Canonical and VMware support on premises.
