AlloyDB: A Unified Database Engine for Hybrid Search

Google, Tuesday, October 6th, 2026

AlloyDB AI adds a single SQL function for hybrid vector and full-text search using Reciprocal Rank Fusion, plus BM25 and RUM indexes.

Google Cloud details AlloyDB AI updates that simplify hybrid search, which combines vector and full-text search for RAG and AI applications.

A single SQL function powered by Reciprocal Rank Fusion replaces complex queries or application code for fusing and re-ranking results, while a new RUM extension and a native BM25 index improve relevance ranking, phrase matching and keyword scoring.

A new foreign data wrapper also lets AlloyDB query external Elasticsearch, OpenSearch and Solr clusters.
