What Infrastructure Efficiency Means at Service Provider Scale

F5, Wednesday, October 7th, 2026

F5 cites Tolly Group tests showing BIG-IP Cloud-Native Edition used far less CPU than a VNF for DNS and L4+CGNAT on OpenShift.

F5 commissioned The Tolly Group to compare F5 BIG-IP Cloud-Native Edition against a tested virtual network function deployment on Red Hat OpenShift.

The tests measured throughput, latency, CPU and memory for DNS query processing and for Layer 4 plus Carrier-Grade NAT, and both showed substantial CPU reductions for BIG-IP Cloud-Native Edition in the tested configuration.

F5 argues that lower resource consumption frees Kubernetes capacity for other workloads and reduces server, power and cooling needs.
