Load Terabytes of Data in Minutes Into Lakebase Postgres
Databricks, Thursday, October 8th, 2026
Databricks' LTAP architecture lets Spark build Postgres pages and indexes in parallel, loading data into Lakebase up to 147x faster.
Databricks describes how its LTAP (Lake Transactional/Analytical Processing) architecture offloads heavy bulk operations from Lakebase Postgres primary compute to distributed engines like Spark.
Spark builds valid Postgres pages and indexes in parallel and writes them directly to storage, after which the primary node publishes the final manifest through a compact WAL record.
Databricks says this makes data loads up to 147x faster without consuming live application resources or affecting OLTP queries, ending off-hours loads, manual backfills and stale data.
