The Zero-Day Blind Spot: Why Your Agentic SOC Needs Retrospective Packet Replay

Cisco, Thursday, October 8th, 2026

Cisco argues agentic SOCs need continuous full packet capture to retroactively check whether zero-days were exploited.

Cisco argues that determining whether a zero-day compromised a host before patching requires looking back in time, which metadata-only logs and NetFlow cannot fully support.

Conditional or selective PCAP also falls short, because no alert fires for an unknown exploit and the initial compromise goes unrecorded.

The post calls for continuous, line-rate, 100% packet capture, which the Splunk .conf26 agentic SOC delivered by combining Endace full session capture with Cisco Firewall Threat Defense intrusion detection.
