Bitdefender's October Threat Debrief counted 790 claimed victims on ransomware data leak sites in September 2026, a 30% increase over September 2025.
Its featured story covers Operation KillSwitch, a September 30 international law enforcement action that seized KillSec's leak site, more than 10 TB of data and several servers, with Europol reporting three arrests.
Bitdefender, which had tracked KillSec since 2024, contributed to the operation, and the edition also covers ShinyHunters' attempt to ransom a rival group and a gang announcing its shutdown.
