Okta: Fake IT Workers Are Getting Stealthier Than Ever
SC Media, Thursday, October 1st, 2026
Okta warns AI-aided 'workforce infiltration' by fake remote IT workers is growing and now extends beyond North Korea.
SC Media reports from Oktane that the problem of fake remote IT workers, often North Koreans hired under false pretenses, is worsening, with Okta threat intelligence director Katie Nickels calling 'workforce infiltration' an industrialized threat that now includes workers from Pakistan, India and Russia using a mix of AI and human techniques.
Okta regional CSO Matt Immler says the main motive is money rather than espionage.
AI enables faked video interviews and lets scammers hold multiple jobs, aided by U.S.-based support networks that provide IP addresses and stand-ins for interviews.
