Physical AI Needs Operational Context, Not Just Robots

Techstrong.ai, Wednesday, September 30th, 2026

Hitachi's Sudhanshu Gaur says industrial AI needs a current context layer of documents, live data and worker knowledge.

Hitachi America R&D leader Sudhanshu Gaur tells Techstrong.ai's Mike Vizard that robots with capable AI models still lack the operational knowledge to work safely on factory floors.

Gaur describes a context layer combining documentation, live operational data and experienced workers' knowledge, with agents gauging their confidence and calling in experts when gaps remain, and notes that context must be protected since tampering could steer unsafe decisions.

Gaur separates flexible AI reasoning from physical execution governed by safety interlocks and deterministic controls, and uses world-model simulation to rehearse decisions.
