Open-weight AI model token usage among enterprises is set to grow from 34% to 41% within a year.
Enterprise Technology Research found open-weight AI models now account for 34% of enterprise AI token usage, up from 23% a year earlier, with adoption expected to reach 41% within twelve months.
Production use has climbed to 42%, and another 43% of organizations are piloting open-weight models. Google's Gemma has overtaken Meta's Llama as the most-deployed model family, with 55% production usage versus Llama's 35%.
Cost reduction, cited by 69% of production users, is the main driver, while security and compliance reviews remain the top adoption obstacle, reflecting a shift toward multi-model, multi-environment AI strategies.
