Huntress argues that Microsoft 365 environments don't get safer over time on their own, citing data that more than half of recommended identity controls are missing in over 60% of tenants, even those running posture-management tools.
It says fear of breaking something, like locking a user out, causes over 90% of organizations to leave settings untouched, letting security gaps accumulate as Microsoft ships updates.
Huntress reports that across tenants running its Managed Identity Security Posture Management, automated control rollout and drift remediation keeps the rollback rate under 1%. The post frames the choice as fully automated, scheduled hardening versus a more customizable, change-controlled approach.
