Cyera's post argues that on-premises data remains critical but is often the least visible and hardest environment to secure, noting that 39% of organizations still store most of their data on-prem despite years of cloud adoption.
It contrasts legacy tools, which scan every file in full and can overwhelm infrastructure, with a sampling-and-clustering approach that classifies large volumes of data quickly, citing an example of classifying 130 TB in under 24 hours.
The post also notes traditional pattern-matching tools work for structured data like credit card numbers but fall short elsewhere, arguing for AI-native classification across on-prem, SaaS, DBaaS, and IaaS environments.
