Phoronix benchmarks SMT on and off across AMD Zen 5 Threadripper and Intel Granite Rapids workstation processors.
Phoronix follows up an earlier 400-benchmark workstation comparison with a focused look at simultaneous multithreading behaviour on AMD Ryzen Threadripper 9000 series Zen 5 parts versus Intel Xeon 600 Granite Rapids workstation chips.
The tests isolate the impact of Hyper-Threading and SMT at matched core counts and memory configurations, so the comparison reflects microarchitecture rather than platform differences.
Results show where Zen 5 gains or loses from SMT relative to Intel's cores across compute, rendering and HPC workloads. It is the kind of controlled, reproducible Linux benchmarking workstation buyers rarely get from vendor material.
