Broadcom Hampers VMware Migration by Blocking Downloads of Key SDK
Network World, Friday, September 11th, 2026
Broadcom has pulled public downloads of VMware's VDDK, an SDK widely used by tools for migrating off VMware.
Broadcom has stopped allowing public downloads of VMware's Virtual Disk Development Kit (VDDK), which is used by migration tools including Azure Migrate, Red Hat's Migration Toolkit, Nutanix Move, and VMware-to-KVM products.
The kit remains available only to larger Broadcom partners. The change came without warning, deprecation notice, or explanation, with download and support links now returning 404 errors.
Copies shared via the Internet Archive were removed and the page excluded from the Wayback Machine, adding to customer frustration over Broadcom's pricing, support, and bundling changes.
