AI Has Turned Verification into the New DevOps Bottleneck

AI speeds code generation, but larger pull requests and unchanged pipelines make verification the new DevOps constraint.
Alan Shimel argues that AI has accelerated code generation without accelerating delivery. Faros AI data shows pull requests grew 154% larger in 2025 and another 51.3% in 2026, while Futurum research finds AI use at 40.2% in code generation but only 13.2% in CI/CD and 6.2% in deployment decisions.
AI-dependent software also requires versioned prompts and models, evaluation gates, and behavioral rollback strategies, yet evaluation adoption lags observability. Winning teams will keep batches small, treat verification as first-class, and reserve human judgment for high-consequence decisions.
