OpenAI introduced the Data agent in ChatGPT Work, which connects to company data sources and lets users surface insights and build interactive dashboards using natural language rather than SQL or a BI tool.
The positioning targets the gap between analysts who can query data and the much larger group who cannot.
For IT organizations the relevant questions are which data sources the agent can reach, how permissions are enforced against existing access controls, and whether generated dashboards become a parallel reporting estate outside governance.
