The Hardest Part of Private Cloud Isn't the Hypervisor

Dell, Friday, September 11th, 2026

Most private cloud difficulty lives below the hypervisor, in lifecycle, firmware and hardware operations.

Dell argues that private cloud difficulty is concentrated below the hypervisor layer, in firmware lifecycle, hardware compatibility, driver management and the operational work of keeping a fleet consistent.

The argument is timely given how many organizations are evaluating hypervisor alternatives after VMware licensing changes and focusing the assessment entirely on the hypervisor itself.

The point stands independently of Dell's product conclusion: replacing the hypervisor does not address the infrastructure operations burden that made private cloud expensive in the first place.
