CoreWeave, Friday, September 11th, 2026

Brannin McBee sets out the platform layer that separates AI clouds from GPU rental in the same rack.

CoreWeave's Brannin McBee argues that an AI cloud and GPU rental are distinct categories even when the hardware is identical, and lays out the platform layer that distinguishes them: orchestration, storage performance, networking topology, observability and the operational practices around failure handling.

The argument is self-interested but the evaluation criteria are sound, and they are the right questions to ask any provider offering capacity at a headline price well below the hyperscalers. Useful given the emerging bulk capacity market.
