Securing the Agentic Shift: Data Protection Across the AI Data Path
Palo Alto Networks, Tuesday, September 1st, 2026
Palo Alto Networks maps the data protection gaps opened when AI agents move enterprise data via MCP and A2A.
The post argues that AI data security has moved well beyond employees pasting sensitive text into ChatGPT.
It works through a scenario where a departing employee uses a sanctioned AI application through a personal account to mine customer contracts and renewal risk, showing that a sanctioned app does not make the interaction sanctioned.
It then extends the scenario to AI agents that retrieve customer data through Model Context Protocol, call enterprise tools and hand information to other agents over Agent2Agent. Palo Alto Networks lays out what data protection has to cover across this expanded AI data path.
