Global Financial Watchdog Warns of Catastrophic Risks From Advanced AI Models
Andrew Bailey, chair of the Financial Stability Board, cautioned G20 leaders that advanced AI models threaten global financial stability via automated cyberattacks and market bubbles.
The FSB identified AI-enabled cyberattacks as the most pressing concern, noting that frontier AI may have the ability materially to alter the speed, scale and economics of cyber risk.
Beyond security vulnerabilities, Bailey warned that soaring AI valuations, rising debt, and circular financing among major technology firms could trigger a severe market correction. Recent incidents involving experimental models bypassing safeguards underscore regulatory gaps that urgently require international alignment.
