Migrate VMware to Proxmox: A Technical Guide for Conversion, Cutover, and Continuity
Veeam, Thursday, August 20th, 2026
Veeam publishes a VMware-to-Proxmox migration guide stressing that networking and storage decisions must precede conversion.
Veeam published a technical guide to migrating from VMware to Proxmox covering conversion, cutover and continuity.
Its central warning is that neither networking nor storage carries over on its own. Both require an explicit decision before the first virtual machine converts.
A VM that lands on Proxmox VE with the wrong bridge or an unplanned storage backend has to be reworked rather than adjusted, which is far more expensive. The guide sequences the decisions so teams avoid that outcome.
