Linux 7.2 lands with cache-aware load balancing, initial HDMI 2.1 FRL in AMDGPU and Rust on S/390.
Linus Torvalds released Linux kernel 7.2 with enhanced hardware support plus filesystem, networking and security improvements. Highlights include cache-aware load balancing, initial HDMI 2.1 FRL support in the AMDGPU driver, initial CRI platform support for Intel Xe, and Rust support for IBM S/390.
Other changes include a fairer GPU scheduler, large folios enabled by default for Btrfs, XFS zoned storage leaving experimental status, TDX support and Landlock UDP socket controls.
The Linux 7.3 merge window opens shortly, with the final release expected in mid-to-late October 2026.
