Intel detailed how Onyx Healthcare, working with Intel and FREE Bionics, built an AI-powered exoskeleton for lower-limb rehabilitation.
The device runs on Intel Core Ultra CPUs with the OpenVINO software stack, interpreting electromyography and pressure sensor data in real time to guide patients through repetitive movements that retrain neural pathways after injury.
Intel says the approach reduces the need for therapist assistance by roughly 50% per session.
The system has accumulated more than 40,000 patient training records across 23 countries and is in use at about a third of Taiwan's medical-center-level hospitals.
