Amazon CloudWatch Logs Announces Intelligent Tiering for Storage
AWS, Wednesday, July 15th, 2026
CloudWatch Logs automatically moves log data across Standard, Infrequent Access, and Archive Instant Access tiers based on access patterns.
Amazon CloudWatch Logs added intelligent storage tiering that automatically classifies log data across three tiers: Standard, Infrequent Access, and Archive Instant Access.
CloudWatch monitors access patterns and reclassifies data not accessed for 30 days to Infrequent Access, and data untouched for 90 days to Archive Instant Access.
The query experience stays identical regardless of which tier data sits in, so teams no longer need to filter high-volume verbose logs or export them to cheaper storage. This lets organizations retain long-lived operational logs natively in CloudWatch at lower cost with no operational overhead.
