CIO: Digital Trust: Cybersecurity Trends, Resiliency, and Strategies (March 28th)

Behind the scenes at Cisco, Pi Day is something we plan out weeks-even months-in advance.

This year, we're bringing back our Pi Day sale on learning products at the Cisco Learning Network Store. And while that is something to celebrate and look forward to, it doesn't exactly answer the inevitable question bubbling in the back of your mind.

What does Pi Day have to do with Cisco learning and certifications?

As network traffic continues to grow due to higher bandwidth applications, such as AI/ML (Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning), high-resolution video streaming and virtual reality, the strain placed upon data center networks continues to increase.

These insatiable demands for more bandwidth are resulting in higher speed and higher density optics and ASICs. The aggregate throughput of switch and optics devices is doubling every two to three years, which ultimately results in doubling the speed and increases in power of the host to pluggable optics electrical interface. Unfortunately, while Moore's Law continues to allow us to scale our chips and equipment (despite non-trivial technical challenges), its corollary, Dennard Scaling, has been dead for a while. This means the power required for the new generation of switch and optics semiconductors is higher than the previous one.

Cisco is pleased to announce FedRAMP Authorization to Operate (ATO)* for our cloud-based Cisco SD-WAN for Government solution.

This solution will help U.S. government agencies and critical infrastructure securely accelerate their IT modernization and cloud adoption. State and local governments moving to the cloud can also gain greater efficiency and security by deploying this, and other, Cisco FedRAMP solutions that have met the federal government's rigorous standards for authorization.

The surge of fully remote or hybrid workers has increased the need for organizations to have full visibility and the ability to respond quickly to thwart any attacks as they arise. Whether the device is on- or off-premises, or in the cloud organizations must have the security tools to respond.

The continuously changing and complex threat landscape can add pressure on your internal security team, which they may not be equipped to handle. By partnering with a security company that understands the current threat landscape and can prepare you to tackle threats that lie ahead, your organization can save time and resources and instead focus on your core business.

Protecting your hybrid workers while maintaining your security resilience is the name of the game.

March 8 is International Women's Day (IWD), which started with the first IWD gathering in 1911 and continues to this day in 'celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.'

This year's theme is 'embrace equity' because it is important to understand the difference between equity and equality.

According to the Milken Institute School of Public Health at George Washington University, 'Equality means each individual or group of people is given the same resources or opportunities. Equity recognizes that each person has different circumstances and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome.'

It was a pleasure to connect with so many customers and partners at Cisco Live EMEA in Amsterdam last month. We were excited to announce several innovations - including new services in cloud-based Cisco IoT Operations Dashboard.

These innovations are game changing for industrial organizations seeking to accelerate their digital transformation, enhance operational efficiency, and improve customer experiences. Our announcements included:
  • Enhanced Secure Equipment Access (SEA) service increases flexibility for the remote management and maintenance of industrial assets.
  • New Cisco Cyber Vision service provides visibility into the security posture of industrial networks.
  • New industrial wireless service supports our industrial wireless series devices when operating in Cisco Ultra-Reliable Wireless Backhaul. In this blog we will discuss how organizations can maintain remote connected assets at scale with Secure Equipment Access in IoT Operations Dashboard.

The theme for the United Nations International Women's Day on March 8, 2023, is 'DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality', and Cisco Networking Academy is at the forefront of providing education for everyone interested in technology as a career.

At Cisco Networking Academy, our mission aligns with the company's purpose of powering an inclusive future for all.

Since its inception 25 years ago, the cumulative number of women participating in Cisco Networking Academy (calculated as a percent of the total number of students who identified their gender as male, female, or nonbinary) has grown over time, and now stands at 26 percent.

Still, we can do more, especially as women comprise nearly half of the workforce.
