5 Top Data Center Networking Trends
Datamation, July 25th, 2022
With the surging popularity of the cloud, and the hyperscalers appearing to conquer all before them, it might be surprising to learn that the data center market in general is alive and well.

Both the local data centers as well as hyperscalers are thriving. Enterprises continue to operate data centers and most have no intention of changing that in the immediate future.

Here are some of the top trends in data center networking:

Data Center Spending Boom

Dell'Oro Group reports that data center capital expenditures (CAPEX) grew at the fastest rate year-over-year in 1Q 2022 than they have since early 2019. This indicates that any COVID-related spending malaise appears to be over.

5 Top Network Management Trends In 2022

How network management has changed. Corporate networks were formerly about the local area network (LAN) and keeping everyone in the company connected.

As the internet age appeared, stronger connections were needed to the outside world. Then Wi-Fi took hold. Companies now need to provide strong wireless LANs as well as help remote employees establish good connectivity to the network. And now edge networking is with us.

Here are some of the top trends in network management:

Edge Networking Surge

The networking edge is one of the hottest areas in networking at the moment. According to a study by Chetan Sharma Consulting on the edge internet economy, the edge economy will be a worth $4.1 trillion by 2030. This has massive implications for network management. Not only will IT have to manage the LAN, Wi-Fi, remote connections over VPNs, and other traditional duties, it will also have to be able to monitor, maintain and manage the many edge devices, and mini-data centers that are expected to emerge.

Software-defined architectures are all about decoupling the software from the underlying hardware, i.e., you don't have to buy a proprietary box to take advantage of the features of the software. This was the traditional model.

As time went on, though, being locked into one vendor lost its appeal. A great many software companies began providing many of those same bells and whistles that could run on any hardware. The software-defined movement is a further step in that direction. One of the earliest forms was software-defined storage. The software could run on a multitude of vendor hardware or cloud platforms. Following the success of software-defined storage, other similar forms emerged including software-defined networking.

Here are some of the top trends in software-defined wide area networks (SD-WAN):

5 Top Wireless Networking Trends In 2022

Wireless and cellular networking is so popular than landlines may soon become obsolete. 40% of users have stopped using a landline phone completely according to a survey from Uswitch. Demographically, 95% of over-65-year-olds still have a traditional phone while about half of under-25s don't have one installed.

About three quarters of homes still have a landline, but one quarter don't have a handset connected - landline service was just part of a broadband service bundle.

In light of this shift, here are some of the top trends in wireless networking:

Wireless Building Out Along With 5G

Private wireless LTE networks and 5G deployments are not occurring as rapidly as analysts previously expected. But both are making progress. The slowdown is partly due to enterprises deciding to get more familiar with these technologies before deploying them broadly.

Top Network Monitoring Software In 2022
Datamation, July 25th, 2022
As more devices access company networks and remote environments are more popular at companies, effective network monitoring is essential to maintain performance and reduce cybersecurity risks.

If a company is experiencing a network problem, network monitoring software can see the issue and can find a solution. From helping with problems like questionable activity and network connection errors, network monitoring software is there to keep a system and company running.

The network monitoring market is projected to reach a value of $2.2 billion in 2022 and is expected to reach $3 billion by 2027, according to Markets and Markets. The demand for monitoring is rising due partly to changing networks and growing of security concerns.

Top SD-WAN Software In 2022
Datamation, July 25th, 2022
A software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN)is a virtual WAN infrastructure that integrates networking and security functions to simplify the deployment and management of data.

Companies are relying on SD-WAN, with a total of 77% of global businesses adopting the software. The global SD-WAN market is expected to grow from an estimated value of $1.9 billion in 2020 to $8.4 billion by 2025, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 34.5%, according to Markets and Markets.

'Organizations' IT environments are becoming more complex with the expanding network traffic across on-premises, public cloud, and branch locations. In such instances, secure SD-WAN offers organizations an efficient and cost-effective approach to manage their networks across multiple locations, while retaining the security functionality,' said Vivien Pua, security senior analyst, Frost and Sullivan.
