Telia Carrier enhances its RPKI-enabled Internet network architecture with Cisco's cloud-scale routing technology to prepare for growth expected with 5G, streaming, gaming and always on connections

Telia Carrier, operating the world's No. 1 ranked Internet backbone, has launched the first-of-its-kind, full-scale, 400GE-ready network backed by Cisco cloud-scale routing technology. The launch follows Telia Carrier's successful deployment of more than 10,000 new 100GE ports during 2019 using the same platform.

A rise in Telia Carrier's customer base, exceeding 2,000 customers in more than 120 countries, with an unquenchable thirst for on-demand content, meant finding a solution with more capacity, speed and efficiency than Telia Carrier's previous network infrastructure could manage.

Participation extends Cisco's commitment to provide broader connectivity in underserved areas

Cisco announced that it has joined Facebook's Express Wi-Fi Technology Partner Program to close the digital divide and enable more people around the world to get connected to a faster, better internet.

According to the 2019 EIU Internet Inclusivity Index commissioned by Facebook, about 3.8 billion people don't have fast and reliable internet access. The study revealed that, in contrast to previous years, progress has stalled on closing the digital divide. Although mobile internet services continue to improve, many low-income countries are seeing slow progress.
